On CNN, Scott Jennings reacted to President Trump’s idea for $ 5,000 check to Americans:

SCOTT JENNINGS: Well, I assume it’s because he wants to give voters an incentive to understand what governance under a Republican majority could look like. I mean, it does beg the question, if you could get them to do it, then why couldn’t you get the Republican majority to do it now? I think that’s a perfectly valid criticism of this. …. Why couldn’t you try to do it now, although I guess the majorities are slim, so that would make it difficult. i noticed you left out of your numbers though. The jobs report 162,000 jobs last month in the last two months revised upward 55000 jobs. Manufacturing jobs are up and public payrolls, government payrolls are down. Look, there’s going to be a debate over the economy. Every election I’ve ever worked in is about the economy. The Republicans are not without arguments here. I interviewed a number of Republican officeholders over the last two days. They were happy to have this convention because it felt like it gave them a chance to get on the front foot and arguing about what they’re doing and why it’s working. the working families tax credit that was cut, tax cut that was passed last summer. I expect that to be big in the midterm messaging for a lot of republican campaigns. the truth is every Republican voted to cut taxes. Every Democrat voted for what amounted, what would have amounted to the largest tax increase in American history. I think you’re going to hear that on the campaign trail this fall.
