Democratic strategist James Carville, in an interview with FOX News host Will Cain on Wednesday, said that the Democratic party’s record speaks for itself.

JAMES CARVILLE: We should all be so lucky as to live in a place that is prosperous as California. California has a higher GDP of Japan and has 125 million people. WILL CAIN: Right. CARVILLE: So I — but I can’t speak for 40 million people or somebody that’s holding up a Mexican flag in Los Angeles. I mean, that’s idiotic. No — I mean, I don’t know what it is that you want me to say. CAIN: You’re a smart — well, here’s why it matters. CARVILLE: I don’t know if this guy even is registered to vote. I have no idea. CAIN: Well… CARVILLE: But I can’t defend every person. It doesn’t make any sense. CAIN: No, I’m asking you to defend the party. But, James, I’m asking you to defend what’s becoming… CARVILLE: I will defend the Democratic Party. Democratic Party’s been the most effective political party in the history of the world. It started Social Security. It brought civil rights. It brought women’s rights. It brought gay rights. It brought — the last party to bring a balanced budget to the United States of America, OK? It shepherded the United States through the greatest age of prosperity it ever had, the ’90s. CAIN: Right. CARVILLE: The Democratic Party really does not need me to defend it. It has a record… CAIN: Oh, it does. It does. It does. It does. CARVILLE: … as good as you can imagine. It ended the Depression. CAIN: But that ain’t today, James. And, oh, how the sad state it is in today.
