RCP Podcast: Does Trump Deserve a Nobel Prize? Biden’s Doctor Pleads the Fifth, Susie Wiles’ World, Secret Service Fallout
Thursday on the RealClearPolitics radio show — weeknights at 6:00 p.m. on SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel 124 and then on Apple, Spotify, and here on our website — Andrew Walworth, Carl Cannon, and National Review contributor Heather Wilhelm discuss whether Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, former President Biden’s doctor pleading the fifth during an interview with House investigators, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom campaigning in South Carolina. After that, New York Post columnist Miranda Devine talks about her interview with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles on her new “Pod Force One” podcast, and RCP’s Susan Crabtree on her new scoop about the Secret Service suspending some officers involved with the Butler, Pennsylvania, shooting last year. *** First, the gang discusses Israeli PM Netanyahu nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Is this just flattery, or does Trump deserve it? “If stopping the worst state sponsor of terrorism from acquiring nuclear weapons and then ending a war in the Middle East isn’t worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, then what is?” Nicole Russell wrote in USA Today. “The problem is he hasn’t done either of those things,” said Carl Cannon. The other problem is the Nobel Committee beclowned itself by giving one to Barack Obama just for getting elected.” “Trump lusting after this publicly, talking about it all the time, has really cheapened what was already a compromised award, in my view,” Cannon added. “I’m all for it for the entertainment value of all the meltdowns that would ensue in the media,” Heather Wilhelm joked. “I’m just bracing myself to find out they’re going to give it to, like, Greta Thunberg.” *** Next, around minute 9, former White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor’s surprise decision to assert his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination, and doctor-patient confidentiality, during questions from House investigators about the alleged cover-up of Biden’s cognitive decline. “I’m so happy this story isn’t disappearing down the collective rabbit hole,” Wilhelm said. “I don’t blame the doctor for taking the Fifth – he’s probably seen a lot. Let’s put it that way.” “What’s the felony, though? What’s the crime here that he would have committed?” Cannon wondered. “I didn’t think there was a crime here. But now, when he took the Fifth, I immediately thought: What does he know? What is he hiding?” Andrew Walworth added: “With all these pardons flying around, the least we can do is give this guy a preemptive pardon, grant him immunity to find out. The two questions that were asked where he took the Fifth were: Was he ever told to lie about the president? And, did he believe Biden was unfit to execute his duties as president?” *** In the next segment, at minute 14:45, California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s tour of South Carolina. “He’s all but said he’s running in 2028,” Cannon said. “Newsom is fighting a two-front war. He’s trying to show Democrats he’s progressive enough – and show swing voters he’s not crazy left. He’s doing battle with Trump while asking Trump’s administration for $ 40 billion. He’s playing chess, not checkers.” *** In the next segment, starting at minute 19:30, Andrew Walworth and Carl Cannon talk with Miranda Devine, New York Post columnist and host of the podcast Pod Force One, about her recent exclusive interview with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. “Donald Trump is the most powerful man in the world, and she’s the most important person in his orbit. She runs everything,” Devine said. “Unlike many orderly people, she respects the chaos. She understands it’s the byproduct of Trump’s energy and creativity.” “He chose her because she was best for the job. She ran a superb campaign, and he trusts her. But yes, she can manage egos – and with a cabinet of alphas, a male chief might just clash more.” “She also talked about how he likes chaos – likes lots of inputs – but eventually, someone has to help him land the plane,” she said. *** Finally, at minute 33, they speak with RCP National Correspondent Susan Crabtree about her new scoop that the Secret Service suspended six agents involved in security preparations for the rally where Donald Trump was almost killed last year in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crabtree, with RCP’s Phil Wegmann, also wrote: “Trump Admin Touts Historic LA Cleanup, Blasts Newsom for Delays” “The real story is that the supervisors were not suspended,” Crabtree said. “Key supervisors – the ones who signed off on the security plan and walkthroughs – got promotions.” *** Don’t miss a single episode of the RealClearPolitics weeknight radio show – subscribe at Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
