The New Mexico Open tees off Monday. Here's three things to know

Sep. 14—The 2025 New Mexico Open returns Monday at Turtleback Mountain Golf and Resort, a first-time host of the state open.

All three rounds of the 54-hole tournament will be contested at the Elephant Butte-based course; the open concludes Wednesday. In addition to this year, Sun Country PGA announced this spring that Turtleback will host the next two New Mexico Opens.

Three things to know about the New Mexico Open:

Some notable names are playing

Notah Begay III won't just help broadcast the tournament: the Albuquerque native and former four-time PGA Tour winner will play in the event for the "fourth or fifth" time after winning it in 1998.

"I think it's going to be a special one," the current Golf Channel and NBC Sports commentator said Friday. "I played the golf course (Friday) and it's spectacular … I just came away really impressed with the layout and the design and the changes in elevation — just all the stuff that I look at as an analyst as being a proper championship venue."

"It was important to have the right feel for New Mexico attached to the (tournament)," Turtleback co-owner James Prendamano told the Journal last week. "You come up with a short list and Notah's at the top … He is so pro-New Mexico and so pro-golf and so excited about the opportunity to share this, it was just a natural fit."

Begay will be joined by two-time PGA Tour winner Matt Every, Korn Ferry Tour pro A.J. Crouch and former NCAA individual champion Todd Demsey. A former roommate of Phil Mickelson, Demsey won the NCAA championship as a sophomore at Arizona State.

It will be streamed

The New Mexico Open will be streamed live for the first time in the event's history, with content available via FaceBook Live and KTSM+. The broadcast will be anchored by KTSM 9 News anchor Ian Roth with guest hosts like Begay making appearances throughout.

The purse is the largest in the event's history

The New Mexico Open's purse is expected to exceed $ 100,000, the largest in the tournament's history. The tournament's purse ranks among the top 10 of all PGA section tournaments in the country, per a release from Turtleback.
