Dearborn Mayor Calls Constituent An Islamophobe: “You Are Not Welcome Here”
APT: At a Dearborn City Council meeting, Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud told resident Edward “Ted” Barham he was “not welcome” in the city after Barham objected to new street signs honoring Arab American News publisher Osama Siblani. Barham accused Siblani of supporting Hezbollah and Hamas, quoting his past remarks. The signs were installed by Wayne County, not the city, but the exchange quickly escalated into a heated confrontation. Read more at the Detroit Free Press. “I mean, Hezbollah bombed the embassy in Beirut, including many Americans, so I just feel it’s quite inappropriate,” the Dearborn man said at the city council meeting. “You are an Islamophobe, and although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here,” Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said. “And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of the city, because you are not somebody who believes in coexistence.”
