RCP Podcast: Trump Snubbed for the Nobel Prize? Letitia James Reaps What She Sowed, Did VA Governor Debate Make a Difference?

On Friday’s RealClearPolitics podcast, Andrew Walworth, Tom Bevan, and Carl Cannon discuss President Trump’s Mideast peace deal and this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner (not Trump), the indictment of N.Y. Attorney General Letitia James for basically the same crime she prosecuted Trump for, and the clash between Abigail Spanberger and Winsome Earle-Sears at last night’s Virginia gubernatorial debate. Finally, the group shares their picks for this week’s “You Can Not Be Serious?!” roundup of ridiculous headlines. You can listen to the show weeknights at 6:00 p.m. on SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel 124 and then on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and here on our website. *** First, is it too early to say President Trump earned the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering a deal between Hamas and Israel? The British tabloids are saying he’s been snubbed this year, and Trump notably hasn’t yet congratulated the winner, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. “He’s a lock for next year,” Tom Bevan joked. “By the way, when she was named the winner of the prize she released a statement praising President Trump and saying she dedicated it to him. So that was a nice touch.” Andrew Walworth offered a comment on the actual winner: “She’s in hiding in Venezuela. Her life is threatened, and she’s a pretty firm small-d democrat in a country that could use that kind of reform. I like shining a light on what’s going on in Venezuela.” *** In the next segment, around minute 9, New York Attorney General Letitia James has been indicted for two counts of mortgage fraud in Virginia, after prosecuting President Trump with almost the same crime. Is it retribution or accountability? “Now, there were several more zeros after the shenanigans Trump was doing, but these are victimless crimes,” Cannon said. “I don’t think Trump should be using the criminal justice system this way. But you have to point out, if you’re being fair-minded, that they did this to him first.” “She’s going to have her day in court, and if they can’t make the case against her, then she’ll be acquitted and it’ll be fine for her, and she’ll be able to go out and say, ‘I told you so,’ just like Trump did when his case was thrown out,” said Bevan. “We all warned about this…This lawfare thing was a bad idea, so now they’re reaping what they’ve sown.” *** After that, around minute 15, Abigail Spanberger and Winsome Earle-Sears finally faced each other at last night’s Virginia gubernatorial debate. They clashed over the issue of transgender bathroom policy in schools and the explosive comments from Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Attorney General. Did either candidate gain any ground? “Virginia is going to have its first female governor, no matter who wins. But all the things we heard when we were young, when feminism was at full flower, how, if more women were in politics, it would be more cordial and more nurturing and more accepting. None of that was present last night on the stage,” Carl Cannon commented. *** Finally, at timestamp 23, the group shares their picks for this week’s “You Can Not Be Serious?!” roundup of ridiculous headlines. *** Don’t miss an episode of the RealClearPolitics weeknight radio show – subscribe at Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
