Buttigieg: I Was Surprised To Read Kamala Harris Said I Agreed America Was Not Ready For A Gay Vice President
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said at the Texas Tribune Festival that he never agreed with Vice President Kamala Harris that the country was not ready for a gay vice president.
JEFFREY GOLDBERG, MODERATOR: I’m not gonna ask you if you’re running for president because 45% of the speakers at the Texas Tribune Festival of running for president. I’m just assuming that you are. I want to ask you about something that Kamala Harris said. Kamala Harris wrote in her book that you were her number one choice. She wanted you to be the vice presidential nominee. By the way, ongratulations on not being asked. That worked out well. But she said that you both agreed that the country wasn’t ready for a gay vice president. So the question for you is is the country ready for a gay president? And by the way if this were the country I think we have our answer. PETE BUTTIGIEG: I wouldn’t have run for president in 2020 if I didn’t think so MODERATOR: But go to what she said. Was that is that a is that a fair analysis of your position? BUTTIGIEG: No. MODERATOR: Why did she say that? BUTTIGIEG: I don’t know. MODERATOR: You don’t know why she said that? BUTTIGIEG: No. MODERATOR: Okay.
