Carville Slams Trump Over Reiner Response: “I Wouldn’t Piss Down His Throat If His Heart Was On Fire”
Democratic strategist James Carville trashed President Donald Trump for his controversial Truth Social post on the murder of actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife. Carville said Trump does not possess the “basic elements of humanity,” and an intervention is needed.
JAMES CARVILLE: We have three years to go with a man who’s not only massively, and I mean massively corrupt, but I’m not sure possesses the basic elements of humanity. Well, it’s not a very, very good day, to be frank, because in a lot of reactions we had to absolutely horror of what happened in Sydney. We had the horror of what happened in Providence. We have the horror of what happened in Los Angeles. I want to focus on the third for the moment. It’s hard to really appreciate how much influence that Rob Reiner had on American culture. It’s really hard to measure just what a decent human being he was. I mean, you know, older people, we remember Meathead and what a groundbreaking and provocative show All My Family was. My daughters watched Princess Bride, I don’t know, 500 times each, maybe, maybe more. You know, Harry Met Sally, I don’t hardly have to Spinal Tap, go through what a creative force and what a genius. But more than just his genius is his sheer decency as a human being. And when something like this happens, there’s something called a human reaction that people have. And, you know, people get like anything else. And, you know, you don’t know quite what to say. You get kind of lost words. You kind of mumble something out, probably the best you can do, not terribly consequential. And then you have the Trump reaction. I remember we had his reaction to the horrific tragedy of Brown. Things happen to people, right? His reaction to the murder of Mr. Khashoggi. He was asked by the, after making billions and billions and billions of dollars deals with the Saudis. I don’t know, things happen. Things happen. That is not a human reaction. It just isn’t. Human beings, think of like all the times in your life when you’ve had to share bad news with someone or, you know, somebody comes up and says, I have this incurable illness. And who says in response, well, you know, things happen to you. What do you want me to do about it? And this is my point. Somebody, somewhere, I think, certainly not me, but maybe somebody, maybe it’s his kids, maybe he has a friend, certainly not his wife. Maybe somebody loves this man. Maybe it’s somebody that like cares about him. You need to talk to him. Because as a country, we have three years to go with a man who’s not only massively, and I mean massively corrupt, but I’m not sure possesses the basic elements of humanity. And I’m not sure he’s not getting worse. I don’t, it’s not up to me because frankly, I wouldn’t piss down his goddamn throat if his heart was on fire. But nobody expects me to do or people that listen to this. But I just wonder if deep down inside, somebody can’t do some kind of intervention because this thing is deteriorating by the day. He’s not going to win more elections. That’s already evident. That’s already clear. But that’s just one element. So we need to go forward and we need to deal with this. Maybe somebody can do it. But until then, I hope this holiday ends up better than it started. Thank you.
