Tom Bevan: Could Marco Rubio Be the GOP’s Next “Glue Guy”?
Tom Bevan makes the case for Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a potential successor for Donald Trump, during a conversation Monday on the RCP Podcast about whether Vice President Vance has what it takes to hold the MAGA movement together. “If 2028 is the year where Republicans are looking for a new glue guy-a compromise figure who can blend MAGA with the older, more traditional Republican Party, suddenly Marco Rubio looks like a pretty good bet, right?” “He’s got the softer edges. He’s well-liked by folks in MAGA world, and certainly by some of the more traditional, mainline Republicans,” Bevan said. “Everyone talks about a ticket with Vance on top and Rubio underneath, but maybe-we’re quite a ways out from this-but if the political sands shift a little, suddenly Marco might be a guy who looks more appealing to a broader swath of the Republican base.” “He’s the one who can bridge the gap, heal those divides, and move the party forward as the big-tent party,” he suggested.
