Kayleigh McEnany: It’s Very Important That The Republican Party Have A Competitive Primary In 2028
“Saturday In America” host Kayleigh McEnany reports live from Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest where Erika Kirk endorsed Vice President J.D. Vance for president in 2028 on FOX News Channel’s “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”
MACCALLUM: Lots of big plans there. Kayleigh McEnany joins me live from Phoenix where she will be hosting Saturday in America from America Fest tomorrow at 10:00 A.M. Eastern. And we look forward to that. Obviously, a big lineup there, Kayleigh. Tell me a little bit about what the mood is there and what that speech was like. KAYLEIGH MCENANY, FOX NEWS HOST: Martha, here’s the mood. This is America Fest. They are so excited. To give you an idea of the kind of people you meet here, the very first students I walked up to behind me, I met a girl who loved politics since she was eight, started in America chapter at 12 in her high school, at Turning Point USA chapter, is now 17. The two people beside her, 16, 17 years old, started these chapters just this year. These young people are engaged. They are smart. They have an outlet here at Turning Point USA. They’re inspired by Erika Kirk, and they’re being drawn away from social media and back to the things that matter in life, faith, hope, and truth. MACCALLUM: Kayleigh it’s interesting to see this polling and it’s, you know, very early, obviously, but it showed this week AOC a couple of points ahead of J.D. Vance. What do you think about this early endorsement that Erica Kirk has made, you know, sort of casting her support and her commitment to him for 2028? MCENANY: It’s a powerful endorsement. You know, our own Fox News voter analysis shows that from 2020 to 2024, President Trump had an 11 point gain among young people. That was in no small part due to Turning Point USA. Turning Point action, they are on the ground, they have door knockers. So, to have that kind of endorsement heading into a primary, it puts a tailwind behind you. I would have a word of caution for the party, though. I think it’s very important that the Republican Party have a competitive primary. It makes you stronger. It makes you tougher. We see how much weaker, in my opinion, the left was by not having a primary, having an endorsed candidate with 107 days to run. I hope we have that competitive primary, but J.D. Vance, a huge leg up with an endorsement here from Turning Point. MACCALLUM: Well, Kayleigh, thank you very much. We look forward to seeing you there tomorrow on Saturday Live Show from America Fest. Good to see you.
