DesRosiers: Candace Owens Isn’t “Just Asking Questions” About Kirk — She’s Weaving Together Karen Gossip
Real America’s Voice host David DesRosiers on ‘America Sunrise’ with hosts David Brody and Dr. Gina Loudon reacted to Candace Owens’ new series focused on Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk.
DAVID BRODY, CO-HOST: Here we go. She’s at it again. Candace Owens has sparked a major firestorm with her new YouTube series, Bride of Charlie, an investigative show targeting Erica Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow. The initial trailer went viral online. It ignited intense backlash and debate across social media. Here’s part of the trailer. Oy gevalt, have a look. NARRATOR: President Trump says that Kirk has died after he was shot from a nearby building. After being shot at Utah Valley University, the great and even legendary Charlie Kirk is dead. ERIKA KIRK: The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. I didn’t get to give him a kiss goodbye. That young man, I forgive him. INTERVIEWER: Take your time. REPORTER: Erica Kirk has been named the new CEO of Turning Point USA. KIRK: My husband’s dead. Like, I’m not trying to be morbid, but he’s dead… It’s weird to say excited. LIONEL, RADIO HOST: Describes her husband’s funeral as the event of the century. Merch hats. CANDACE OWENS: We have 50,000 plus hat orders. COMMENTATOR: Nobody knows why she’s out there in a glittering pantsuit in a recreated tent that her husband tragically was murdered in, throwing merch out. KIRK: Everyone grieves differently, so if someone’s acting weird, don’t read into that. BRODY: Let’s now bring in the publisher for Real Clear Media and the host of Get Real, which you of course can see on here on the weekends on RAV. That would be David DesRosiers. David, look, here’s the truth. Many MAGA and America First conservatives will denounce this, many will, and rightly so. It is disgusting. Some, however, will not. They just say Candace is just asking questions. So what is your take? Because it’s one thing to ask questions. No one’s disputing that. It’s quite another to call this series Bride of Charlie. That is kind of like Bride of Frankenstein, Bride of Chucky, those two previous horror movies. I mean, I think Candace Owens, what she’s doing here is pure evil. This isn’t about asking questions, David. I believe she needs serious help. DAVID DESROSIERS, REALCLEARPOLITICS PUBLISHER, ‘GET REAL’ HOST: I agree with you. I stayed up last night and watched this. So I went through maybe the first hour of it. I couldn’t see. I was doing it as a duty so I could speak to it on the show. But I don’t think a normal human being could spend the first 15 minutes on that platform without thinking that, you know, Candace is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. She’s completely off her rocker. This isn’t asking questions. It’s just weaving together Karen gossip. And it’s completely disgusting. She starts the whole thing with reading a letter of a person who’s an authority. She’s an authority because she’s an actress. And all it is is a deconstruction letter of a Karen to a beautiful woman and a wonderful organization. It’s disappointing. The good news is I think 1.5 million people had watched it, only 15,000 people watched it, but only 15,000 liked it. I do think the more people watched Candace instead of actually listening to these little clips or listening to other people do it, that she would die on the vine very quickly. I just think it was a reprehensible show. I wouldn’t watch it. And, you know, I really do think people would watch it because it’s like an OnlyFans page for political porn. And it’s just bad for your soul. I wouldn’t do it. I found out that Hala once advertised on that show. I think they should go back because there’s a lot of souls to save there. DR. GINA LOUDON, CO-HOST: I watched it. I don’t know how to say it. Like, I just don’t want to demean someone. I don’t necessarily understand the questions about Erica as much, but I’m glad people are out there on social media. And I did watch the whole thing, by the way, and I’ve watched a lot of this and David Brody being one of my best friends in the world. We’ve had many conversations about this, but I have to say if the horrible, you know, Charlie was my friend too. He was one of Candace’s best friends. If something happened to David Brody, God forbid, and nobody else was asking questions, I have to tell you, I would be out there asking questions and I wouldn’t care what anyone thought about it. I would be asking questions. I think the questions of what happened to Charlie are extraordinarily fair to ask. And I wish I understood how to ask the right questions. And I think that to say, you know, there’s obviously a concerted media effort out there to demean Candace, to call her evil, to call her demonic, all of those things. People will call me that, I’m sure too, but I’ll tell you something. If something happened to my friend David Brody, I would be out there asking hard questions and I wouldn’t care what anyone thought. And you could call me insane all day long. I’d still ask those questions. I think that part of her line of questioning is very fair. And I have to tell you, I had not listened to Candace per se. I’ve met her backstage at turning point events where I’ve spoken and she’s spoken. I was not her greatest fan. I’ll tell you that to be sure. I felt she was a little, I don’t know, just aloof. And I will tell you that Erica is a friend of mine. Absolutely. And I still, I want questions about Charlie’s murder answered. Can you speak to that part of this? Because there is a massive contingent of MAGA out there and especially Gen Z MAGA. They are not going to let this go. So for us to just say, just to try to sweep Candace into a corner and say, don’t listen, don’t listen. They’re going to listen. And I think we need to listen to them or we are going to have a fracture in MAGA that might affect the midterms. Speak to that. DESROSIERS: Well, I agree that asking questions is the, you know, it’s a journalistic method and we’d be less if we didn’t. I would just, you know, judge the substance of the questions that she’s asking, like the pearls of insanity that she’s stringing along. I mean, she is, you know, that was the most detached from fact that I’ve ever seen anything. I mean, like even the picture you just showed right there, like what a macabre intro showing a, you know, a grieving widow kissing her dead husband’s hand and then spend the whole show deconstructing Candace’s birth, suggesting that she might be like a mutant from a CIA Marine base. It was just total nonsense. And again, I want people to, I think the prescription to Candace right now into this show is for people to give that a taste, go down that rabbit hole for 15 minutes. And I think you’ll come out the other side saying, hey, she asked questions and that’s important, but she’s a kook.
