Tom Bevan: Shocking To Watch Trump Rip Apart His Own Coalition Over Iran
RCP co-founder Tom Bevan responded to President Trump’s attack on his supporters who are now criticizing the war in Iran, like Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson. You can see the rest of the conversation on Friday’s edition of the RealClearPolitics podcast — now airing on SiriusXM’s new Megyn Kelly Channel (111). “When people say Trump’s lost it, this is what they’re talking about,” Bevan said. “I was trying to think of an analogy, to put it in terms that Donald Trump would understand. We’re all sports guys,” he said. “Imagine if Donald Trump asked to be the general manager of the New England Patriots, and promised to do two things: win Super Bowls and never change the name of the franchise.” “And then he becomes general manager, and a year into it, he says: Guess what? I’ve decided to change the name, we’re going to be the New England-whatevers. And people who are Patriots fans object to that!” Carl Cannon suggested: “New England Warmongers?” “And Trump’s response is: F– you guys, all of you. You’ll do what I say, and if you don’t, then you’re stupid, low IQ, losers,” Bevan said. “It’s so mind-boggling that he has decided to attack the people who helped him get to where he is, and has divided his own coalition. He’s basically taken the side and put these effusive posts out for Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro-and he’s attacking Megyn and Tucker.” “It is so ridiculous. If you’re a Republican, especially if you’re an elected Republican, to watch him sort of rip this coalition apart by himself,” Bevan said. “It brings to mind that tremendous philosopher, Robert Downey Jr., from Tropic Thunder: ‘Never go full retard.'”
