Bevan: Obama Says Attorney General Isn’t a “Consigliere” — But “Wingman” Was Fine?

Thursday on the RCP podcast, Tom Bevan said former President Obama is leaving something out about his own attorney general when he criticizes the politicization and weaponization of the Trump Justice Department. Watch: Obama: The Attorney General Is The People’s Lawyer, Not The President’s Consigliere “Eric Holder was Obama’s wingman, Tom Bevan said. ‘Wingman.’ That was what he said, and Obama never objected to it.” “He never said, ‘No, no, wait. You’re not my lawyer. You’re not my consigliere. You’re the people’s lawyer.” Obama used the Justice Department to investigate his political enemies, Bevan said. They spied on James Rosen of Fox News and all these other journalists they didn’t like. They used the IRS to attack. Not to mention how Barack Obama was instrumental, with all these folks – Biden, Rice, Clapper, Comey – in January 2017, basically instigating this entire Russia thing against Trump, Bevan said. “Obama is nothing if not a fabulous liar and sanctimonious in the extreme when he talks about stuff like this.” Here’s the full segment from yesterday’s RCP podcast: “This idea where they said Merrick Garland was going to make all these decisions independent of politics – there were two things wrong with that. First of all, they were lying,” Carl Cannon said about the later Biden administration. “Second, the Justice Department is a part of the executive branch. The attorney general reports to the president of the United States,” he said. “The Justice Department is not supposed to be some citadel accountable to no one. This isn’t a constitutional idea.” “The Democrats don’t have clean hands,” Cannon added. “Having said all that, you’d think Trump would know this, of all people. He was singled out, so he should be the person who stops it.”
