Tom Bevan: “Mangionistas” Praising “Heroic Violence” Show “Morality Has Been Inverted”
Tom Bevan reacted on the RealClearPolitics podcast to the pro-Luigi Mangione “Mangionistas,” heard defending his alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as “heroic violence” outside a pre-trial hearing this week. “I wanted to rant, but this leaves me speechless,” Bevan said. To see these young ladies standing out there talking about heroic violence, and she says sometimes violence is okay, it’s acceptable.” “By the way, they’re praising him for killing this guy. He’s pled not guilty to the crime, so I don’t know if they’re helping his case much.” Bevan said the comments about Thompson’s children were especially disturbing. The idea that his kids would be better off without him is so inhuman, he said. These people think they’re being these moral, upstanding people, when in fact they are being completely inhuman. Bevan said the reaction reflects a deeper moral confusion around political violence. It’s like morality has been inverted, and people literally cannot figure out what is moral and what is immoral, what is human and what is inhuman, he said. And these young women are just a walking, talking textbook example of that. “Democrats for a long time have been demonizing greedy health care executives and the health care system, these HMOs and all that,” he continued. “I don’t want to absolve this guy of his responsibility for being the one who took matters into his own hands … But that is a very destructive rhetoric. It’s a very destructive ideology. It’s a very destructive frame to put on the world itself.”
