Yemisi Egbewole on Platner: The Issue For Democrats Is “Can You Trust A Candidate Who Is Not Being Honest To You?”
Democratic strategist and former Biden press officer advisor Yemisi Egbewole weighs in on the latest controversy with Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner. From “Special Report” on Friday:
SHANNON BREAM, FOX NEWS: Great to have all of you with us. Okay. So you may say, what do Democrats do with this now? Because they’re all going to have to answer the question about whether they support him or not. Some of them say, this is my red line. It’s been crossed. Others say like, hey, redemption story. And they’re sticking with them. YEMISI EGBEWOLE, DEMOCRATIC CONSULTANT: You know, well, redemption is a biblical principle, but it also has to come with contrition. And I think Democrats are really, really frustrated because back in October, when the tattoo story was first broken, a lot of Democrats said, we don’t think that this is a candidate that is going to be able to beat somebody as formidable as Senator Susan Collins. But his team and the candidate himself attested to the fact that there would be nothing else coming and also brushed it under the rug by saying, well, this was an accidental tattoo. Well, now we know whether he wants to admit it or not, that that is incorrect. And that is not a real truth. And the issue is, can you trust a candidate who is not being honest to you? And I think that the Democratic Party is a little bit worried because we’re entrusting this seat to somebody who has not been a fair player in this.
