Alpha News: Five Years After George Floyd, The Facts Speak For Themselves
This report from Alpha News reviews primary source documents and interviews people involved in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in the custody of the Minneapolis Police five years ago. Reporter Liz Collin interviews former police officers and Floyd’s convicted killer, Derek Chauvin. They say bodycam footage of the event was suppressed and the presence of the “knee-on-neck” method of restraint in the police handbook was covered up — particularly in testimony from Assistant Chief of Police Katie Blackwell at Chauvin’s trial. At minute 23:30 in the above video, Collins interviews Derek Chauvin by phone. Chauvin flatly said that Blackwell’s trial testimony was “outright perjury.” In April 2025, a Minneapolis judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit against Liz Collin and Alpha News filed by Assistant Chief Katie Blackwell.
DEREK CHAUVIN: One would that that the commander in charge of the training unit, [Blackwell], who was supposed to be supervising and overseeing all training operations delivered by training personnel for the Minneapolis police Department, that she would know darn well what training is delivered and what isn’t. LIZ COLLINS: What did you think of her testimony? DEREK CHAUVIN: It was outright perjury.
In the second part, Liz Collin speaks to former Minneapolis Police officer Tou Thao, one of the four officers involved in the arrest of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.
