AOC: If Republicans Want To Gerrymander More Seats, They Have To “Water Down” Already Red Districts
New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told CNN’s Manu Raju that if Republicans are going to gerrymander congressional districts to gain more seats, they are also “watering down” already safely-red districts, which leaves them vulnerable during a “blue wave” scenario:
REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: If you want to gerrymander these seats that way, that also means you have to water down a lot of Republican seats and a lot of those Republican margins. If they want to do that during a blue wave-what is looking to be a strong cycle for Democrats-you know, in 2018 we won seats that were R+7. Democrats won seats that were, you know, looking like there could be a cycle where R+10 seats flip to Democrats. And so if Republicans want to draw a map that makes them more vulnerable to that, that’s their decision to do that. MANU RAJU, CNN: Do you think there will be a wave, a blue wave? ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: I think so.
