Brad Todd: The Press Has An Obligation To Acknowledge CRs Are To Keep The Government Open, Not Introduce New Policy
Republican strategist Brad Todd on CNN said the media has always acknowledged continuing resolutions are not the time to introduce new legislation, it’s to keep the government operating. “The press has always been very clear that CRs are not continuing resolutions, which the Congress has been debating, are not the places to bring in new policy,” Todd said on Thursday. “It’s to keep the government open. CNN’s been clear about that. The New York Times has been clear about that. Everyone’s always been very clear that it’s wrong to bring other policy into a shutdown. The press has an obligation to follow those same rules.”
BRAD TODD: Not if the press does its job. The press has always been very clear that CRs are not continuing resolutions, which the Congress has been debating, are not the places to bring in new policy. It’s to keep the government open. CNN’s been clear about that. The New York Times has been clear about that. Everyone’s always been very clear that it’s wrong to bring other policy into a shutdown. The press has an obligation to follow those same rules. CNN GUEST: Yeah, but Republicans have also tried to use the CR as a vehicle to put some of their pet projects… TODD: It was a mistake. We tried to shut the government down to use the CR, and we got killed for it.
