Carville: Trump Comes Up With “Goofy Sh*t” To Distract You From The Fact Of All The Failures He’s Had
James Carville on the “Politics War Room” podcast said that President Trump uses “goofy sh*t” like making Canada the 51st state to distract from his failures.
AL HUNT, CO-HOST: Trump, accompanied by business lackeys, including the publisher of the LA Times, is in Saudi Arabia with everyone praising the Saudi crown prince, MBS, who you may remember only about six years ago ordered the execution and dismemberment of Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi. Finally, Ed Martin, who was too dumb or unqualified to become U.S. attorney in Washington, has just been given, that’s a job really for a Fox News host, has just been given a new job at the Trump subsidiary, the Justice Department, and he’s going to review all the pardons that Biden gave, but not Trump’s. So putting this all together, James, tell us what it all means. JAMES CARVILLE: Well, first of all, let’s just talk about corruption, okay? This is what we know now. Do you think they’re going to stop? Of course not. It’s going to continue to get worse. That’s why I think the Democrats, we’ve talked about this, need a simple thing to explain, is I understand that the way that ethics works in the federal government is federal employees have a code of ethics. Actually, congressional members have probably not the strongest thing you’ve ever seen, but they do have one. And there’s not very much that applies to the executive branch. So Democrats should be for, say, the code of ethics of federal employees should apply to every person employed by the federal government up to and including the president. Why can a meat inspector in Minneapolis not take a bribe from Hormel, but the president of the United States can essentially take a bribe from God? It doesn’t make any sense. It makes no sense. And they said, well, it might be a constitutional issue. You might be a troop. Oh, shit. The executive branch prosecutes people in the legislative branch all the time. We could, you know, Ossie Myers or any number of other instances. Let them explain that. You can’t tell me that we live in a country where a meat inspector, a park ranger, airline controller. So should we let United Airlines pay an airline controller to make sure that it is playing land ahead of American planes and Delta plans? Of course not. We would be outraged. That would be illegal. Couldn’t do that. You’re not supposed to do that yet. There’s you and you’re watching it, but just right in front of you, that’s selling the meme coin or whatever they call it and inviting the people of the White House, selling places at the White House east to a grow. It’s it’s it’s so staggering. You, you, you can’t believe it, but you just, you got to stay on it. And I think the play, the plane actually broke through. I don’t think that’s even close to the worst thing they’ve ever done, but it broke through and we should stay on it. But what will happen? I’m don’t fear it. I almost know it is we’re going to get distracted by something else. And what he does is he puts his tariffs out. Okay. You had maybe the greatest capitulation you’ve ever had in a trade negotiation where he just tells the Chinese, fuck it. We just, we’re going to do anything. Just sign. He tells the treasury secretary, just sign anything. And it’s been, so what does he do the next day? He says, I’m going to lower the price of prescription drugs by 80 or 90%. He has no intention of doing that. He puts that out. So the people are calling and says, we don’t be a panel to talk about his drug proposal plan. The Democrats are really careful because people like lower price prescription, he’s not serious. He, I know the guy that he talked to. I’m 90% sure. I’ll tell you his name next week. I’ve said he was fat and he was in London. And the guy said, I need to get medicine here. It costs $ 800. It costs $ 3,000 in the US. So he put something out. So we forget about the capitulation on the trade deal. And then we’re talking about that. That’s what he does with green. That’s what he does with, uh, Panama canal or Canada or any other other goofy shit that he comes up with. He just distracts you from the fact of all of the failures he had. And God damn it, it works again. They’re actually taking it seriously. It’s just all bullshit stacked on bullshit stacked on bullshit. And until people learn to treat it like that, and it’s, if he’s going to annex the Panama canal. Oh, Canada’s going to be the 51st state. I mean, get real, but we, he’s there. He certainly does drive the conversation.
