Chaffetz: The Left’s Record On The First Amendment Goes Only One Way, “They Are Evil In The Way They Treat Our Constitution”

FOX News contributor and former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) reacts to Democrats becoming defenders of the First Amendment following ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show.

WILL CAIN, FOX NEWS: Yes, I mean, it does seem logical and it’s obviously worthy of investigation to say someone dealing with the mental illness that manifests into this other condition we’re calling gender dysphoria and ultimately transgender is given hormones or medicine and asks that society affirm their choices. And when that doesn’t solve all of their underlying mental health issues, they’re told it’s because society sees you as an existential threat and wants to erase you. It’s a pretty easy math equation to say that can add up to violence. Meanwhile, Jason, Democrats are suddenly the party of free speech. Democrats have posted all across social media now being champions of the First Amendment and free speech. Take a look here at the various Democrats who have posted since the firing of Jimmy Kimmel. They’re all holding that in their bio, posting that “Protect Free Speech” image in their bio. But it wasn’t long ago, Jason, and this wasn’t hard to put together, they sounded like this. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) KAMALA HARRIS, FORMER VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Donald Trump, who has 65 million Twitter followers, he and his account should be taken down. This is a matter of corporate responsibility. JEN PSAKI, FORMER WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: You shouldn’t be banned from one platform and not others if you are — for providing misinformation. REP. DANIEL GOLDMAN (D-NY): The First Amendment is not absolute. It does not protect any single thing anyone says. And there are limits. And that’s important. JOHN KERRY, FORMER U.S. SPECIAL ENVOY FOR CLIMATE CHANGE: People go to only one source and the source they go to is sick and has an agenda and they’re putting out disinformation. Our First Amendment stands as a major block. (END VIDEO CLIP) CAIN: You know, one we didn’t include, Jason, that I wish we would have is Jimmy Kimmel saying to Aaron Rodgers, you can’t just put out misinformation. You can’t just simply have a platform and put out misinformation. That’s the words of Jimmy Kimmel. CHAFFETZ: These Democrats are absolutely disgusting. The biggest attacks that I have seen on the First Amendment happened in the Obama-Biden administration. I saw it firsthand. They tried to suppress the 300 people, remember the Lois Lerner case, in making sure they didn’t have the ability to participate in the marketplace. I remember, as I recall, the attacks and the spying on, oh, I don’t know, James Rosen and the Associated Press. I also remember hearing Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Facebook, saying that people at the Department of Justice would call up yelling and swearing at them to do certain things to make sure that voices on social media were suppressed. And I could go on and on and on. But the record that these people have on First Amendment goes only one way. They are all about coexistence. They’re all about tolerance. They’re all about the First Amendment, unless you disagree with them. And if you disagree with them, guess what? They want you suppressed. They’re the ones that came up with this office of disinformation that they were trying to thrust upon us so they could be the sole arbiters of what you could and couldn’t talk about. These people, I’m telling you, they are evil in the way they treat our Constitution.
