Dasha Burns: Trump Has Been Impacted By The Images Of Children Out Of Gaza, Turning The Screws On Netanyahu
Politico’s Dasha Burns on “Special Report” said President Donald Trump, as a grandfather, has been affected by the pictures and visuals of children in Gaza. “He’s a TV president, Bret, you know that better than anyone,” Burns said. “And so he really does get impacted by these visuals, especially when they’re of children. He’s a grandfather. He does care about this. And similar to his relationship with Putin, you know, he’s been giving Netanyahu some space. He’s been letting him have some optionality. But he’s starting to feel like he’s getting to a point where he needs to turn the screws a bit.”
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: He was sort of discussing it with you, we never did discuss it, and we have no view on that. BRET BAIER: The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has a view on it, posting on X, Starmer rewards Hamas’ monstrous terrorism and punishes its victims. A jihadist state on Israel’s border today will threaten Britain tomorrow. Appeasement towards jihadist terrorists always fails. It will fail you too. It will not happen. That said, Dasha, you have this really good piece in Political Playbook, in which essentially the President has turned, has split from Netanyahu, based on what’s happening on the ground in Gaza. And it is not insignificant, this moment. DASHA BURNS, POLITICO: Yeah, it’s not insignificant. His tone shift and his real shift with his relationship with Bibi Netanyahu, he has been impacted by the images that he’s seen coming out of Gaza. And look, this time around, this administration, much more than before, I hear him and I hear his advisers talk about his legacy. And he is looking at a world on fire right now. And he wants to be the guy putting those fires out, the guy that’s ending suffering, whether that’s in Gaza, whether that’s in Ukraine. And so he’s less concerned about some of the partisan politics around it than he is about whether he can get something done here. And, you know, he’s a TV president, Bret, you know that better than anyone. And so he really does get impacted by these visuals, especially when they’re of children. He’s a grandfather. He does care about this. And similar to his relationship with Putin, you know, he’s been giving Netanyahu some space. He’s been letting him have some optionality. But he’s starting to feel like he’s getting to a point where he needs to turn the screws a bit.
