Former DNC Chair Donna Brazile said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” roundtable that the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the U.S. for trial on “trumped up charges” is better than remaining in prison in El Salvador without due process:

ATTORNEY GENERAL PAM BONDI: We want to thank President Bukele for agreeing to return Abrego Garcia to the United States. Our government presented El Salvador with an arrest warrant, and they agreed to return him to our country. JON KARL, ABC NEWS: Okay, so help me understand what’s going on here. They were saying they couldn’t get him back, and now he’s back and he is charged with very serious crimes. What’s going on? What’s the move? REINCE PRIEBUS: I don’t know what motivated the move back, because I think people had forgotten about this issue, and the Democrats were bleeding on this idea of trying to protect the felonious illegal immigrant. But now the best case the Democrats have is that they were fighting for the due process rights of a person who was beating his wife, who was here illegally for 14 years, who was trafficking humans across the country by the hundreds or thousands, and it didn’t turn out well for the Democrats. JON KARL: They were saying they couldn’t get him back and they got him back. REINCE PRIEBUS: If you’re going to defend this guy, you’re losing. DONNA BRZILE It’s not about defending individuals. It’s about defending the rule of law. It’s not just about him; it’s about our system of government. And if we lose focus on that, then who are we? Look, he is going to have to face these trumped-up charges. I think some of these charges are trumped-up, and he’s going to have, hopefully good legal defense- REINCE PRIEBUS: You’re protecting this guy already? DONNA BRAZILE: I don’t even know this guy. REINCE PRIEBUS: How do you know it’s trumped-up? Where did you hear that from? DONNA BRAZILE: It looks like they wanted to throw something back at him to get him back in the country and say-but at least he has due process.
