Fleischer: Why On Earth Did The White House Give This Kind Of Access In The Interview To Vanity Fair?
Ari Fleischer on Tuesday’s “Special Report” chastised the White House for giving access to “Vanity Fair.”
BRET BAIER, FOX NEWS: Ari, I want to start with you. Some of these long-form, multiple 10-12 sit-down interviews, you never know where they’re going to go. This White House is definitely defending Susie Wiles, and the President says he’s with her 100 percent. ARI FLEISCHER, FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR: Well, this really feels to me, Bret, when you read that story as like one of those stories in which there’s nothing that she hadn’t previously said privately to her co-workers that she didn’t say now publicly in this interview. So I don’t think people are surprised at the things she said. I think many of them have said similar things about the people they work with. What did come as a surprise was who they gave this interview to. J.D. Vance is 100 percent right. Why on earth did the White House give this kind of access in the interview to Vanity Fair? Vanity Fair has a history of doing these kind of puffy, profily stories about the White House with photography, and all the pictures they used, by the way, were uncomfortable close-ups. It was predictable, though. You don’t give Vanity Fair this kind of access because they’re coming after you if you’re the Trump administration. So I just question how and why they agreed it was a good idea to give Vanity Fair this interview. We’re in a polarized media era, created in part by Donald Trump. They should continue the polarization of that and not have this appeal to someone who will never cover them well.
