FNC Update On Cincinnati Brawl: Police Believe It Was An Ambush, Attackers Claim There Is “More To The Story”
FOX News correspondent C.B. Cotton delivered an update on Special Report regarding the violent Cincinnati brawl, where a white man was beaten and kicked by a group of black men and women. Despite a crowd of over 100 onlookers, only one person called the police.
BRET BAIER, FOX NEWS: Tonight, a third person is facing charges in connection with last weekend’s vicious street brawl in Cincinnati. We’re also learning additional information about what happened there. Correspondent C.B. Cotton has the latest details. A warning here, some of these images are disturbing. [VIDEO] C.B. COTTON, FOX NEWS: A brutal beating in downtown Cincinnati early Saturday morning. The horrific video showing a white man being repeatedly punched and kicked by a group of black men and women. Then you see a woman knocked out cold with blood on her face. Now, three suspects making their first court appearance to face charges including felony assault and aggravated rioting. [VIDEO] With detectives revealing new, disturbing details about the case. DETECTIVE BARNEY BLANK, CINCINNATI POLICE: So this is more like an ambush as to Mr. [Montianez] Merriweather’s involvement in this. We believe he coordinated this with Mr. [Jermaine] Matthews. COTTON: The accused were granted bond as their defense attorneys argued there’s more to the story than the now viral videos. Cincinnati police have only said alcohol played a significant role and that they’re still investigating what led up to the fight. Where police leaders say only one person called 9-1-1 in a crowd of about 100 people. SHERYL LONG, CINCINNATI CITY MANAGER: I do not accept this one incident that we had this past weekend and I’m going, I’m definitely not going to let it define us. COTTON: Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno said in a statement that the FBI has launched an investigation as some in the Trump administration have suggested race was a factor in the brawl. But Cincinnati’s Democratic mayor has said there’s no evidence to support that claim. Cincinnati police have said there will be more arrests. Those who are in custody so far will have their cases heard by a grand jury next Friday.
