FNC’s David Spunt: Trump Could Make A Victim Impact Statement At Sentencing Hearing For Would-Be Assassin
FOX News justice correspondent David Spunt reports President Donald Trump could make a victim impact statement at the sentencing hearing for Ryan Routh. Routh was found guilty on Tuesday of attempting to assassinate Trump in 2024.
DAVID SPUNT, FOX NEWS JUSTICE CORRESPONDENT: He was arrested on September 15th. That was just over a year ago, on the side of that Florida highway. Federal prosecutors said he spent more than 10 hours in the shrubs of the golf course. That Secret Service agent saw the tip of a rifle and his face through the shrubs. Now he put on his case in less than a day. As we mentioned, sentencing is scheduled for December 18th. And this is an interesting nugget that Jim Trusty, former federal prosecutor and one of President Trump’s former attorneys, brought up that President Trump could potentially give a victim impact statement. In this case, he could potentially do it in court. It’s not clear if it will happen, but clearly he’s the victim here, and he has a right to give a victim impact statement if so warranted, if he so chooses on December 18th when sentencing is set before Judge Aileen Cannon. MARTHA MACCALLUM, FOX NEWS: That would be something.
