FNC’s Griffin: In Iran, U.S. Military Used “One Way Attack Drones” For The First Time Ever

FNC’s Jennifer Griffin reports from the Pentagon about the attack on Iran overnight:

JENNIFER GRIFFIN, FOX NEWS: We don’t have any casualty figures or any confirmation of senior leaders having been killed, even though many of them were targeted by Israeli airstrikes earlier today. Certainly, all eyes will be on whether we see any sign of life from the supreme leader, from the defense minister. They went across the board and targeted the top layer of the Iranian government, and the head of the IRGC as well. What I can say that’s new right now: we’re just getting word that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia says it will join the United States in the operation against the Islamic Republic of Iran. They say this comes in the wake of Iran attacking a U.S. base in Saudi Arabia. I just spoke to a senior U.S. official who said the Iranians made a big mistake by firing on Arab coalition partners. Now they are likely to respond. By Iran firing missiles at the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, those countries are now likely to fire back at Iranian targets. So those coalition partners are now going to enter this operation that started off as a U.S.-Israeli operation. That is very, very significant, and we haven’t seen that happen in the past. The U.S. military has been focusing on high-value targets, I’m told – significant IRGC facilities and capabilities, naval facilities, and underground facilities likely associated with the nuclear program. We are also reporting that Tomahawk missiles were used in the first volley of strikes. According to one official I talked to, they said, We have suppressed their air defenses, so the U.S. and Israel are having a much easier time targeting now. That first wave was really designed to suppress those air defenses. They’re not completely suppressed, but they’re virtually suppressed. This was a multi-geographic command-and-control effort designed to overwhelm their defenses, I was told. And the U.S. military used some new capabilities in these strikes. For the first time ever, the U.S. military used one-way attack drones in combat. I think we are the first to report that. There were hundreds of targets in what is being described to me as a multi-day operation. The Iranian response has been ineffective, I’m told, but I’m also getting reports that a large number – possibly 135 – Iranian drones may have targeted the U.S. Navy base, the headquarters of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, and may have struck targets there. But again, we don’t have the battle damage assessment yet. We’re waiting for CENTCOM to see what has been struck, and we expect to get a briefing later today.
