College golf coverage has long been instrumental to Golfweek, reaching back to the magazine’s first years of publication.

2. Fans realized SEC football coach was being fired because his weekly tee time was canceled
After an ugly 10-3 loss to Kentucky, Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze was fired by the university just hours after fans booed the third-year Tigers coach and chanted “Fire Hugh” as he walked off the field.
But some fans figured out the former Ole Miss coach was preparing for departure through an absence on the tee sheet at the Auburn University Club, where Freeze was known to have a standing tee time of 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
3. NCAA Men’s Golf Championship highlights: Michael La Sasso wins indy title, match play set
The third round of the NCAA Golf Championship resulted in half the field being cut, with only 15 teams advancing to the final round.
Defending national champion Auburn led by four shots after three rounds of stroke play, and Ole Miss junior Michael La Sasso had a two-shot lead over Texas A&M senior Phichaksn Maichon for medalist honors. Both players were finalists for the Haskins Award.
4. NCAA Men’s Golf Championship highlights: Virginia, Oklahoma State advance to championship match
It was down to two.
After a marathon day at the 2025 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, only two teams had a chance to win a national title. Virginia and Oklahoma State battled it out for the right to be called national champions. The Cowboys prevailed in a thrilling victory.
5. This Division I school is eliminating its golf programs effective immediately
Stephen F. Austin State University announced it was cutting its men’s and women’s golf programs at the end of the academic year. The decision was based on sustained departmental budget deficits and the anticipated financial impact of upcoming revenue-sharing requirements with Division I athletes, per the school.
