BRET BAIER, FOX NEWS: Yes, Harold, to that point, there are Democratic lawmakers calling for funding to be cut to DHS and ICE. Take a listen. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) REP. JAMIE RASKIN, (D-MD): We should be using every means at our disposal to reign in ICE. Congress, again, must assert its power over the situation. REP. PRAMILA JAYAPAL, (D-WA): We have to cut off the funding for these rogue ICE officers who are kidnapping people, killing U.S. citizens. REP. MIKE JOHNSON, (R-LA) HOUSE SPEAKER: We should not be limiting funding for homeland security at a dangerous time. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a critically important function of the government. (END VIDEO CLIP) BAIER: Harold, your thoughts? HAROLD FORD JR., FORMER TENNESSEE REPRESENTATIVE: First of all, thank you for having me on. I share Trey and Kimberley’s thinking on this in so many ways. We seem to be at a critical point where we are straining and testing the bonds of humanity. There is no doubt that the young lady in the car, at least the videos I have seen, and the video today I think raise even more questions. But she was in the wrong. I think the second question is, how do you remedy that? I think what’s disturbing to some on both sides, I think the gentlemen you had on earlier, the acting Homeland Security chief said we have reached a point where it’s almost OK to defy law enforcement. When law enforcement asked you to do something, you should do it. But the question then becomes, if you don’t do it or you are acting somewhat either playfully not doing it or actively not doing it, what’s the reaction it should be from law enforcement? And we’ve got to get beyond retreating to both of our sides here, Democrat and Republican. We need to understand that we are at a tipping point in our country, or almost at a tipping point, and we ought to all be trying to deescalate and step back from this.
