Kite & Key Media: Thanksgiving Food Fights

KITE & KEY MEDIA: While some families fight about politics, the biggest Thanksgiving debate may actually be about what’s on the menu. Polling shows that America is a nation divided … about Thanksgiving dinner. For one thing, the meal looks a lot different depending on where you live. In the South, the meal is more likely to include ham, mac & cheese, and sweet potatoes. The Midwest is disproportionately likely to feature mashed potatoes, stuffing, and corn. And the Northeast leads the nation in the use of cranberry sauce and brussels sprouts. Unsurprisingly, turkey is the country’s favorite Thanksgiving food, although nearly twice as many Americans prefer white meat over dark. As for stuffing, Americans are more than 50% more likely to say it should be outside the bird rather than inside. There’s also a sharp divide on cranberry sauce, which 40% of seniors say should come from a can. By contrast, only 14% of those under 30 want it from a can – and 33% say it shouldn’t be served at all. Pumpkin pie is America’s favorite Thanksgiving dessert, with pecan pie finishing a distant second.
