Mamdani: I Will Not Be Intimidated By Donald Trump

NYC mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani offered this comment about President Trump on election day. Mamdani leads former Gov. Andrew Cuomo by nearly 15 points in the RCP Average of polls:

REPORTER: Are you concerned about any voter intimidation? There were some bomb threats at voting locations in New Jersey this morning-not here-but is there concern that could happen here? ZOHRAN MAMDANI: It’s incredibly concerning. It illustrates the attacks we’re seeing on our democracy. Sometimes they’re blatant, like these bomb threats. But even here in New York City, I saw a young woman share that her mother, who voted for our campaign, was harassed at a polling site. We have to see this as part of the larger pattern encouraged by the Trump administration-intimidating voters with baseless allegations of fraud to repress the voices of Americans. And when we talk about how to fight Donald Trump, one way we can do that is by understanding Andrew Cuomo for what he is-the candidate endorsed by Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Stephen Miller. … REPORTER: President Trump says he plans to reduce federal funding if you win. What are your thoughts on that? ZOHRAN MAMDANI: President Trump also encouraged every New Yorker to vote for Andrew Cuomo. There are many things he’ll say or do that won’t bear out in reality. I’ll treat his threats as they deserve to be treated-as the words of a president, not the law of the land. Too often, we treat what he says as if it’s already law simply because he said it. We need a mayor who stands up for New Yorkers every day-not one who sacrifices New Yorkers to protect himself. REPORTER: Any last-minute message for New Yorkers concerned that the president might follow through on those threats? ZOHRAN MAMDANI: I look forward to representing those New Yorkers and fighting for every dollar this city is owed. Trump talks as if it’s his decision whether or not to fund a city-but it’s not. That’s our money. I’ll use every tool at my disposal as mayor-the courts, the bully pulpit, and the law itself-to fight for this city. And I know that doing so threatens Donald Trump. It’s why he’s gone after Attorney General Letitia James, because she had the audacity to hold him to the same law as every New Yorker. But I will not be intimidated by this president-or by anyone. My job is to serve the people of this city.
