Mark Penn: The Biden Presidency Was A Wreck, I Blame The Press For Allowing The White House To Manipulate Them
Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn called the Biden presidency a wreck in an interview with Martha MacCallum on FOX News today.
MARTHA MACCALLUM, FOX NEWS HOST: Mark, one of the other things from this Axios piece is that they staged in April a town hall. They sort of created their own town hall on the White House campus with cameras rolling for 90 minutes on stage, a full list of questions, but the resulting footage was unusable. Quote, the man could not speak, said one person involved. You know, your thoughts on this issue of his ability to do his duty in office, not even as running as, you know, for the next presidency? MARK PENN, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST, POLLSTER: Well, I wish I could have a big fight with Kellyanne, but, you know, I really think here, the presidency by Biden was a wreck, and it was a wreck in so many different ways. And now that it’s come out that his competence really was under question for a long time, which we all knew, we all saw that. We all saw that he couldn’t really do the full functions of what we need for the leader of the free world during incredibly difficult circumstances with wars breaking out on two fronts. I mean, we knew that down deep. We knew that in the campaign when he never, he even got out of his basement, and we knew that he was never pressed by reporters on any subject. And we knew that the transactions that his family had were all questionable, and obviously so. So I don’t know who it’s shame on, the press, us, the voters, in various, in accepting what we accepted. But I think in retrospect here, this presidency was a wreck in so many different ways. MACCALLUM: You worked in the White House, just quickly, if you can here. Is it unreasonable to say that maybe cabinet members should have done something? PENN: I really, I don’t think cabinet members should have invoked the 25th Amendment. I do agree that he was not, you know, he was less, he was, he wasn’t fully functional, but really the 25th Amendment was really meant for somebody who was much, you know, was catatonic. I don’t really blame them. I blame more the press and kind of more the fact that they allowed all of these obvious things where they would pre-scope out who would be called and what the answers would be and what the questions would be is so far from a legitimate give and take. And the first time you had a legitimate inspection of the president, which was in an open debate where he couldn’t do any of those things, he completely fell apart.
