RCP’s Wegmann: Putin Is Going To Find Out Russia’s Mileage May Vary If They Continue To Insult Trump, U.S.

RealClearPolitics White House correspondent Phil Wegmann discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict on Monday’s edition of FOX News Channel’s “Special Report.” RICH EDSON, FOX NEWS: Phil, given all that’s happened, do you think there is a plausible scenario where the president can walk away from this and say, this wasn’t our war, we’re done here? PHILIP WEGMANN, REALCLEARPOLITICS: We heard Vice President J.D. Vance say that the United States was willing to walk away from the negotiation process. It’s unclear whether that means walking away from the peace talks or walking away from Ukraine. But what I’ve been struck by in this exchange, where Trump says that Putin is crazy, is the Russian response. This isn’t the first time they defied him. Last night there were those strikes. But it’s one of the first times that they have criticized him and insulted him. They said that he was being emotional. And I think that they’re going to find out that their mileage may vary on that if they’re going to insult Trump and then if they’re going to insinuate the United States is weak. If you doubt that, just ask Zelensky. You know, like Mark said, there’s levers that the United States could still pull. And Trump has shown willingness in the past to push back against people who defy him. and then if they’re going to insinuate the United States is weak. If you doubt that, defy him. And I think that they’re going to find out that their mileage may vary on people who defy him.
