SC Dem Senate Nominee Annie Andrews: “There Is No Way” Nancy Mace Could Beat Me In A Statewide Election

On Dean Obeidallah’s podcast, South Carolina Senate candidate Annie Andrews claims she has a clear path to victory, regardless who Trump anoints as the nominee:

DEAN OBEIDALLAH: By the way, any sense who Republicans might pick? And is the process set for how they’re going to pick the person to run against you? DR. ANNIE ANDREWS: Yes. It’s been rapidly evolving, but the process is set. There will be a special Republican primary held on August 11th. The filing period for Republicans who want to run is going to be between July 21st and July 28th, with the election on August 11th. But we are a runoff state. So if no one gets 50% of the vote on the 11th, which they likely won’t because there will be four or five, six Republicans who want to vie for this open Senate seat, the runoff election will be August 25th. So most likely I will not know who my opponent is until August 25th. There’s a lot of names being floated out there. Most of them are the usual suspects: the people who just lost the Republican nomination for governor, the guy who just lost the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, who primaried Lindsey Graham. It’s really sort of the old collection. One of the front-runners is a 70-plus-year-old white male congressman. It’s like same story, different day. We feel really confident about our chances against everybody whose name is being floated out there. Again, my mission hasn’t changed. South Carolinians’ problems haven’t changed. The strength of me as a candidate, the strength of our campaign-we’ve raised $ 11 million. We are ready. OBEIDALLAH: Wow, that’s great. ANDREWS: And we are going to win this seat. Before this weekend, our poll showed us in a statistical tie. I’m making great progress with non-MAGA Republicans and independents, and we have a very clear path to victory, regardless of which Republican Donald Trump anoints to be the nominee. OBEIDALLAH: Any of the candidates running against you that you would like to run against? ANDREWS: I think it’s a little too soon to say. Nancy Mace can’t not make herself be a part of a news cycle. So she was the first to jump on and tease that she might run. I ran against her in 2022. I’m sure she’s telling people she’s the woman who beat me once, she can beat me twice. But that dog doesn’t bark statewide. There is no way that she could beat me in a statewide election. But it would be interesting to see a rematch. She just came in fifth in the governor’s primary, so I don’t think she’s going to be the nominee. OBEIDALLAH: Yeah, I saw her on TV. We didn’t even know the cause of death for Lindsey Graham, and she was already saying, “Well, I don’t want to rule out anything. People of South Carolina want me.” No, they don’t want you.
