Schumer: People Are Going To Realize That Trump Betrayed Them And That “We’re On Their Side”
Senator Chuck Schumer was a guest today on SiriusXM’s Mornings with Zerlina and said that working class voters will realize that Democrats are “on their side” and that President Trump “betrayed them”
ZERLINA MAXWELL, HOST: There’s a new AP poll that says that only a third of the Democratic party are optimistic about the party’s future, and that includes the younger generations, Gen Z and millennials. Can you talk a bit about what you believe is driving that pessimism? SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER: I think there’s pessimism because it’s more difficult to live life in America these days. When I was a kid, if you ask the average person what their future would be, they said, if I work hard, I’ll be doing better 10 years from now than I’m doing today. And my kids will be doing still better than me. People don’t think that anymore. And so it’s the job of Democrats, we are the party of the working people, and as people see the fight we are making, we’re making this every day. I was in – we have seven Republican congressional districts in New York State, I was in six of them – telling everybody, rallying people to come together to fight against these things. And the Republican congressmen who were defending cutting this Medicaid were scared. Now they say, well, they don’t want to cut it. Yesterday I was with people of the cloth. I was with priests and ministers and rabbis and imams at food banks. They’re cutting $ 300 billion from feeding hungry kids. You know, when a kid goes hungry, they can’t learn. They can’t have a good life. And so I think as the days go on and people see the contrast between what the Democratic Party is and what the Republican Party is, they’re going to realize that we’re on their side. They’re going to realize that Donald Trump lied to them. Donald Trump betrayed them, as you said at the beginning of your show. He said he wouldn’t cut Medicaid, he wouldn’t cut Social Security, wouldn’t cut Medicare. He is doing that. He’s cutting food for people. He’s cutting housing. So many people are desperate for good housing. It’s cutting all that kind of aid. So as people see the contrast between Democrats and Republicans, they’re going to realize we’re on their side. He’s betrayed them.
