Sen. Tim Kaine: Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Food Distribution Is Not “Professional,” Getting People Killed
Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine told “FOX News Sunday” this morning that what the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is doing in Gaza is “not working” and they should “let the professionals do it.”
SEN. TIM KAINE: Hamas is diabolical. They’re a terrorist organization. They’re horrible, but they’re not the same as the Gazan population or the Palestinian people. And so, there needs to be a vigorous war against Hamas and an eventual de-arming of Hamas. That — that needs to happen. And I think we all believe that. But innocent Palestinians, women and children, both in Gaza and on the West Bank, should not be suffering because of Hamas’ atrocities. And that’s why we signed on to this letter saying when it comes to humanitarian aid, rather than put it in the hands of an organization that’s relatively new, who’s found or resigned before the operation started because he believed that the restrictions being put upon them were inconsistent with humanitarian principles, let the professionals do it. The World Food Programme and Mercy Corps, their organizations that have been doing food aid around the world for decades, they should be the ones helping distribute adequate humanitarian aid to Gazans. … You’re right. No easy answers although that — that — that statement, that reporting that Hamas is diverting aid is seriously questioned even by Israeli officials. “The Times of Israel,” Shannon, is just reporting this morning that the IDF killed 23 Gazans who are seeking food at one of these GHF sites just over the weekend. Clearly, no easy answers, but what’s happening now isn’t working. And so, again, when you have groups like the World Food Programme headed by Cindy McCain, John McCain’s widow, that have done this for decades all around the world, don’t put it in the hands of a new group that — that was recently formed, who — whose leadership has even complained that they’re being restricted. Let the professionals do it. That — that needs to be the answer on the — on the humanitarian front. SHANNON BREAM, FOX NEWS: Yes. You mentioned the World Food Programme. They say 95 percent of their trucks have been looted before they ever get to their destination. So, why not try something new? KAINE: Well, look, it’s — provide them some protection and don’t kill civilians who are coming to get — who are coming to get aid. It is the case that trucks get looted by hungry people who are starving and they see a food truck coming through and they’re like, I got to save the life of my children. Again, let’s take this — the war should be against Hamas, not against Palestinians in Gaza and on the West Bank where there’s huge suffering and violence against Palestinians on the West Bank who have nothing to do with Hamas in Gaza.
