Tom Bevan: Iran War Gives Democrats a Winning Argument Going Into November
RCP co-founder Tom Bevan said on Wednesday’s edition of the RealClearPolitics podcast that if President Trump doesn’t quickly wind down the war with Iran, and maybe even if he does, he’s handed Democrats a “winning argument” going into the midterm elections. “The reports are that he said this will be over in two to three weeks,” Bevan said. “Let’s assume that’s true… And that’s the starting point for the Republicans for the election, assuming we don’t do anything with Cuba or whatever.” “Democrats are going to say Trump took a two-month detour, spent $ 60 billion, and America is no better off,” he said. “In fact, you’re worse off because gas prices are higher and things are still more expensive, and Trump and Republicans took their eye off the ball.” “I think that is probably going to be a winning argument versus the Republican case, which is, ‘Well, we had this huge victory in Iran, but sorry, gas is still $ 5 a gallon, and now we’re going to get around to lowering prices and making things more affordable.’ It puts the Republicans in a very tough spot.” “And that’s if it ends-if it actually does end-in three or four weeks.”
