Tom Bevan: Why Would Trump Brief Democrats in Congress on Iran? ‘They’d Probably Leak It’
RCP’s Tom Bevan suggested that part of the reason the Trump administration hasn’t briefed Congress in advance of military actions is that he simply doesn’t trust them to respond in good faith. You can listen to the rest of the discussion on Wednesday’s RealClearPolitics podcast. “There’s no way the administration is going to go to Congress and brief these Democrats,” he said. “They’re gonna probably leak it to the media, distort what was being said. We’ve seen this before. We saw it with Adam Schiff. We saw it in the House.” “Not to mention the fact that, as we said before, this was a strike with a window of opportunity that the Trump administration saw and decided to go for,” he added. “I mean, is there a single Democrat in the Senate that the administration could go to other than John Fetterman? Could you trust Chuck Schumer? Could you trust, obviously not Chris Murphy, Blumenthal, any of these folks?” “He could trust Jeanne Shaheen. I mean, there are still honorable people there. Durbin’s a partisan guy, but he’s trustworthy,” Carl Cannon suggests. “I take your point, but you don’t want to overstate it.”
