Towery: If You Get High Turnout In New Jersey and Virginia, Republicans Can Win

Pollsters Matt Towery and Robert Cahaly weigh in on polls showing the gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey tightening. Towery said New Jersey is “exceptionally competitive” and the race is “closing fast” in favor of Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli.

SEAN HANNITY: Matt, you went in the field, you wanted to test and see if all these controversies in New Jersey with Democrats and Virginia were having an impact on the race. Clearly it is. MATT TOWERY, INSIDERADVANTAGE: Yeah, well, I mean, like in Virginia, you just saw that debate tonight. Goodness, that guy’s dragging everybody down on the Democratic side in Virginia. And in New Jersey, there’s been a shift in politics in New Jersey. The northern portion of New Jersey that used to be big-time Democrat is now more Republican. It’s all flipped. So these states are very competitive. I happen to think New Jersey is exceptionally competitive. I think that race is closing very fast. And the candidates, the Democratic candidates for governor in both of those states, they have had very bad debates. They’ve had bad responses. They’re just not putting on a good show. HANNITY: Yeah, and New Jersey, Robert, is cracking me up. I mean, the Democratic candidate, Mikey Sherrill, I have no idea how I made $ 7 million. I just, I don’t know, I looked at my bank account one day and it just magically showed up. I have no idea how it got there. She won’t commit to not raising taxes in a very high-tax state. And we can’t get a straight answer. As a matter of fact, we get shifting answers why she did not walk at graduation at the Naval Academy. Because first she said, I wouldn’t tell authorities what I knew and that’s why I got caught up in it. Then she said, well, I told them everything I knew. I think she’s got a problem with telling the truth. Is that impacting that race? ROBERT CAHALY, TRAFALGAR GROUP: She ought to go on a book tour if she can teach people how to put $ 7 million in their bank account without doing anything. She’s done a lot of books. You don’t need to be governor. But no, absolutely. That scandal, along with whatever happened at Naval Academy that kept her from walking, is having an impact and really kind of making it, I mean, right now when people are very frustrated about taxes in New Jersey, and so they have no reason to trust anything she says. And I think that that has given Republicans a very strong advantage. And that’s the kind of state that I think taxes are going to move that election. And it’s just a matter of, you know, it’s all get out the vote at this point. I mean, leading by one, down by one, these are all get out the vote questions. HANNITY: You’re both telling me that these races now have narrowed dramatically. And I don’t want to, I never like to be Pollyannish. I don’t want to raise false hope in people. But it seems my interpretation of your polls, Matt Towery, is if people get out and vote in New Jersey, if they want change, they have a shot. In Virginia, they have a shot. Right or wrong? TOWERY: Yeah, they have a shot. I mean, they have the wind at their back because President Trump just pulled off one of the greatest miracles of diplomacy of our lifetime. Of course, the polls won’t show that because the polls never want to show how Trump is really doing. But there’s so much positive going right now nationally. And then you have these candidates fumbling on the Democratic side. Let me say one thing about turnout, though. In Georgia, there are two public service commission races. Those seem like small things, but they’re very big in Georgia. Down there, the turnout is massively Democrat right now, not Republican. We’re able to track those votes. And it’s a very low turnout. So if you get a high turnout, like in New Jersey, Virginia, Republicans can win. If they don’t get their act together in Georgia in those little races, that could be bad news for setting up Georgia for the next round for governor.
