Towery: Republicans Must Be Ready For The Midterms As GOP Trails In Generic Congressional Ballot Polls
InsiderAdvantage pollster Matt Towery discusses Democrats’ approach to crime and why Republicans are lagging in generic midterm polls. “Midterms are not as easy, and one of the things we’re seeing right now from the RealClearPolitics Average, there’s not one poll of the public that says the Republicans are leading in that generic congressional ballot test,” Towery said on FOX News. “Now, I think it has to do with the way they poll, and I don’t think it’s really a reality, but Republicans need to be ready for the midterms.”
JASON CHAFFETZ, FOX NEWS HOST: Well, here with reaction is Matt Towery, pollster and political analyst, along with Ben Ferguson, co-host of The Verdict with Ted Cruz as well as host of The 47 Morning Update. Great stuff there. All right, Matt, I don’t know, the Democrats can even think about moving forward. They’re stuck in the past. They have Trump derangement syndrome, and they can’t get over it. They just — I mean, here we are in August, and they can’t get over it. MATT TOWERY, POLITICAL ANALYST AND POLLSTER: Well, they — and they — and they continue to have surrogates who throw crazy ideas like the newest one is, of course, that prayer is not good, right after a tragic shooting, you’re not supposed to pray. So that’s another problem they have. On top of their stand against crime, in which they basically say they don’t want Trump to do anything to clean up crime in these blue states. The people see these — this sort of stuff, and it really is hurting the brand. You would think the people who advise Cracker Barrel are advising the Democrats right now. But I want to give one quick warning, though, to all Republicans, and that is, you know, I’m a pollster. I poll Donald Trump very well. Midterms are not as easy, and one of the things we’re seeing right now from the RealClearPolitics Average, there’s not one poll of the public that says the Republicans are leading in that generic congressional ballot test. Now, I think it has to do with the way they poll, and I don’t think it’s really a reality, but Republicans need to be ready for the midterms. It’s about motivating people to turn out to vote, and that’s going to take some creative things, like Donald Trump talking about having a pre-midterm convention, which is brilliant. Yes.
