President Trump had this comment about California Gov. Gavin Newsom during an unrelated event at the White House on Friday:

REPORTER: Can you talk about the economic impact FIFA would have, and what is your message to the mayors about the safety aspect? PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Los Angeles is an example. We have a mayor there who cannot even get permits to the people who lost their houses. The hardest permit is the federal permit. Within 20 days, every single permit was there for people to build their houses. People are writing us and saying the mayor is incompetent, the governor is incompetent. I know Gavin very well-he is an incompetent guy with a good line of bullsh-t, and he does not get the job done. Those people want to build their houses. Some of them could have been built already. The federal government has the most complex part-it is the most complex environmental thing to do. Everybody had it within 30 days. They’re not even close to getting their permits. Now they’re talking about taking some of those sites and building low-income housing. These are high-end neighborhoods. I am all for low-income housing-I built a lot of low-income housing. I know more about low-income housing than probably almost anybody. It is great, it is fine, it is wonderful. But you do not build it in the Pacific Palisades. You do not build it there or in other areas. They are talking about putting up low-income housing. They will have riots if that happens. They want to build their houses, and they are unable to get permits from the mayor and the governor, and that is a terrible thing.
