Trump: “White Farmers Are Being Brutally Killed And Their Land Is Being Confiscated In South Africa”
President Trump explains his decision to grant refugee status to white farmers from South Africa: QUESTION: I want to ask you about South African refugees. Dozens of Afrikaners who claim discrimination in their home country are heading to the United States. Your administration is going to welcome them as refugees, even as you halted virtually all refugee admissions for people from famine and war in countries like Sudan and Congo. Why are you creating an expedited path into the country for some but not others? PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Because they’re being killed, and we don’t want to see people be killed. Now, South Africa’s leadership is coming to see me, I understand, sometime next week. And we’re supposed to have, I guess, a G20 meeting there or something. We’re having a G20 meeting, and I don’t know how we can go unless that situation is taken care of. But it is a genocide that is taking place that you people don’t want to write about. It’s a terrible thing that’s taking place, and farmers are being killed. They happen to be white, but whether they are white or black makes no difference to me. White farmers are being brutally killed, and their land is being confiscated in South Africa. And the newspapers and television media don’t talk about it. If it were the other way around, they would talk about it-it would be the only story they’d talk about. I don’t care who they are or their race or color, their height, weight-I don’t care about anything. What is happening is terrible. I have people who live in South Africa saying it is a terrible situation taking place. We’ve essentially extended citizenship to those people.
