Victor Davis Hanson said he has never seen a meltdown of a modern politician since Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), commenting on the Los Angeles riots in an interview with FOX News host Laura Ingraham.

LAURA INGRAHAM, FOX NEWS HOST: Alright, joining us now to unpack all this insanity, Victor Davis Hanson, longtime California resident, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. Victor, so Newsom now is deploying 800 additional local law enforcement officers to LA. Now, he’s caught in a box. He knows he’s caught in a box now. He has the lefties on one side, then he has common sense on the other, and if he wants to get elected governor, president, he’s in a terrible situation. So he says he’s doing this to, quote, clean up Trump’s mess. Your reaction tonight to this, Victor? Yeah. VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: I don’t think I’ve seen a meltdown of a modern politician ever, as we’ve seen with him the last three days. He’s polling 27% popularity, 2% of the Democratic Party thinks he should be their next standard-bearer. He picked a fight with Donald Trump and called the ICE legal efforts to deport illegal aliens. He said it was reckless, it was chaotic, he sided with them. Then he said it wasn’t violent. Then he begged Tom Holman to come after him with this kind of braggadocio, come on tough guy, come and get me. And then he picked a fight with the Treasury Secretary and he announced that because we pay $ 80 billion more than we get, we might not pay any taxes to the federal government at all. I mean, that’s 1% of the federal revenue is California’s so-called imbalance, but that was a felony to advise California taxpayers not to submit to the IRS what they owe. So he’s just thrashing around. And then you look at the polls, 54% of the people, even with this hysteria, want the deportations to continue. And we had the 100-day polls and the biggest demographic that was for Donald Trump’s policies were Hispanics at 62%. So it’s Orwellian, it’s almost like you want to shake him and say, do you really think the American people are behind you? When people are burning the flag of the country, they say they have to stay here even though they’re illegally here. And they’re waving the flag of the country under no circumstances they want to go back. That is insane. And the violence and spitting on the flag, burning the American flag and saying, I got to burn the flag and I have to stay here. And I’m going to wave the flag of the country that don’t dare put me back to it doesn’t make any sense. LAURA INGRAHAM: And that’s what he’s for. Victor, how long do you think, how long do you think, by the way, the left or the Democrats in charge would tolerate other flags that are symbolic to groups of Americans? Maybe flags that don’t have the same political outlook, or let’s say it’s an old Confederate flag. Let’s say it’s a don’t tread on me flag. And there was a group of people with those flags flying in the background. Do you think they’d hesitate to send in the National Guard? They’d bring in tanks if they could, don’t you think? VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: No, we knew them. And then we had the Mexican president interfering in our internal affairs, saying that she’s going to defend this and help these people and you dare not tax remittances. And what would happen if you had Americans in the plaza of Mexico City waving the American flag while they burn the Mexican flag? I don’t think they’d last one nanosecond. And then you had Representative Torres saying, get the F out of LA and Karen Bass. This will not stand. It all reminded me of George Wallace standing in the University of Alabama and saying states rights forever and we’re not going to let you nationalize our guard and Alabama can defy the federal government. These are neoconfederates. That’s who they are. Nullification, just like the Civil War. It’s really sad and dangerous.
