Megan Khang has not so quietly become a Solheim Cup star, and this weekend, she could cement legend status by breaking a nearly 20-year-old record.<\/p>\n
Khang is making her fifth Solheim Cup appearance. In her first appearance in 2019, she was 0-2-1, only winning half a point in her singles match against Charley Hull. In 2021, she improved on that record, going 1-1-1 and winning 1.5 points for her country. Little did she know, her Sunday afternoon fourballs loss that year would be the last L in her Solheim Cup record for at least five years.<\/p>\n
Since that Sunday in 2021, Khang is 8-0-1 in Solheim Cup matches, including her fourballs victory with Alison Lee on Friday. Together, the pair defeated Celine Boutier and Nanna Koerstz Madsen, 5 and 3.<\/p>\n
Khang started the day wearing a star-studded cowboy hat and hyping up her teammates and friends while she sat out the morning foursomes. She ended it being responsible for four birdies in her and Lee's sound win over the Europeans \u2014 the Americans' only outright win of the afternoon.<\/p>\n
To think there's a world where Khang was left off the United States team entirely.<\/p>\n
After earning her spot on the U.S. team through automatic selection in her first four appearances, Khang was a captain's pick this year.<\/p>\n
You'd think her Solheim Cup record should be enough to get her on the team, no problem.<\/p>\n
In reality, Khang has struggled this season, missing four straight cuts \u2014 including at the Evian and AIG Women's Open \u2014 from July to August. For the 2026 season as a whole, she is sitting at just a 55% made cut percentage \u2014 10 cuts made in 18 starts. But U.S. captain Angela Stanford's job is to see beyond the cuts, finishes and stats.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe is the straw that stirs the drink,\u201d Stanford said after filling out her team with Khang, Lindy Duncan and Rose Zhang in late August. \u201cI mean, this young lady, she\u2019s the battery that makes us go and when you travel, you have to take your own energy. She\u2019s our battery, she makes us go and she\u2019s shown it through all of her Solheim Cup appearances.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer teammates love her, her teammates want her in the room and then she gets there and her record\u2019s pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n
That 'pretty good' record is currently the second-longest unbeaten streak in Solheim Cup history. If Khang wins her next match, she'll tie current U.S. assistant captain Paula Creamer for the longest unbeaten streak in cup history at 10.<\/p>\n
Creamer's streak was 7-0-3 from 2005 to 2009.<\/p>\n
If Khang wins two more before the weekend is out, 11 will mark a new record.<\/p>\n
The idea of cup specialists isn't anything new. There are a few players on the men's side that, whether they're playing good individually or not, will almost always be selected to a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup team. They just know how to flip a switch and become match play machines when it counts.<\/p>\n
Khang is no different, and at 28, the battery of the U.S. team isn't likely to slow down anytime soon.<\/p>\n
