You can listen to the show live, weekdays at 11:00 a.m. on SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly Channel 111, and then on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and here on our website. *** The show opens with another set of high-profile crimes committed by illegal immigrants known to have a criminal past, but released back onto the streets anyway, in Democratic sanctuary jurisdictions. “The pendulum has swung too far. There are people who belong behind bars who are walking the streets, and judges-almost invariably Democrats-are letting them out and shrugging,” Carl Cannon said. “This could be a quiet issue that people are thinking about, maybe even seething about, and not talking to pollsters about.” “There may be some validity to Republicans thinking these are the kinds of stories, when Democrats are out there defending people who are here illegally, that can impact elections,” Tom Bevan said. *** At minute 13, the panel does a deep dive into the volatile Senate race in Michigan, where a three-way Democratic primary scheduled for Aug. 4 shines a spotlight on three distinct directions the party could go. Do Democratic primary trends reflect a broader leftward shift in the country-or just within the party-and how might that shape the midterms? RCP Average: Michigan Senate – Democratic Primary (August 4) “The energy in the party is on the left–with Bernie,” Walworth said. “The question is, will that carry them in the general election because they’ll get turnout? Or does it reach a point where it turns off independents and makes it tougher for them to certainly take the Senate, but also hurts them in the House?” “Your premise is that these left-wing ideologues will compromise Democrats’ chances in the fall elections. It was a leading question, but I get the import behind it, and I agree with it,” Cannon said. “But what I want to point out is that if the Democratic Party is moving left, that means the country’s moving left. Democrats are still the largest political party.” *** At minute 23:30, Mary Katharine Ham joins the show to review journalists’ trauma farming” in the wake of the WH Correspondents’ Dinner shooting scare, and discuss the wider problem of extreme political rhetoric inspiring acts of violence from unstable people. “It was certainly a memorable night,” she said. “After ensuring my personal safety and letting people know I was okay, I think I modulated to anger that this keeps happening.” “I appreciate the people who stood up and tried to find out what was happening; they were doing their jobs, but let’s not amp it up too much,” she said. “Also, the shooter was a floor up from us. I think there’s a reason that’s not being made clear very often-people want to give the impression that he was very close to them personally. That wasn’t the case.” *** At minute 31, they discuss the president’s new pick for surgeon general, FOX News contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier, and the Senate banning members from betting on “prediction markets.” “This goes along with things like a stock trading ban. We don’t want our elected leaders-who have access to information that we don’t have-even to have the temptation or the appearance that they are using that information to profit. That’s unacceptable. It’s flat-out corruption,” Tom Bevan said about the prediction markets. “So Congress should be doing things like this to protect its own reputation.” *** Finally, 43 minutes into the show, the panel gives their weekly “You Cannot Be Serious?!” roundup of entertaining headlines. *** Don’t miss a single episode of the RealClearPolitics daily radio show – subscribe at Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.
RealClearPolitics Videos

Friday on the RealClearPolitics podcast, Tom Bevan, Andrew Walworth, and Carl Cannon discuss how voters respond to crimes committed by illegal immigrants released from jail in blue sanctuary cities, and the Senate race in Michigan.
