California state Sen. Scott Wiener, who recently won the Democratic primary to replace retiring Rep. Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco’s 11th congressional district, was confronted by pro-Palestine activists and chased out of a “Trans March” in Dolores Park on Friday by activists upset over his support for Israel. The New York Times reports<\/a> Weiner was “on his way to a Pride Shabbat service led by a trans rabbi.” Wiener, who is gay and Jewish, was at first condemned by pro-Palestinian, leftist organizations for not calling Israel’s war in Gaza a genocide, and was condemned by Jewish groups<\/a> when he gave it and used the term. “I think your legislation on trans issues, specifically protecting queers on the sex offender registry, is fantastic… but I think your policy on the genocide in Gaza is terrible,” an increasingly angry person named Dimitry Yakoushkin said, following him through the park. “I think you don’t belong here.” “You’ve been wonderful for trans people, and you’ve been terrible for Gaza. You do not belong here anymore,” he said. “How could someone like you do this to San Francisco?” “How could you betray queers? How could you oppress people?” he said. Another person adds, “You stopped being queer the minute you started supporting Israel.” As I walked through Dolores Park to participate in a trans-led Pride Shabbat service in connection with the trans march, a group of people began screaming at me, ran up to me, surrounded me, and began harassing me, both verbally and physically, including physical contact,” Weiner tweeted afterwards<\/a>.
