Donald is ramping up his training camp regimen in hopes of joining Myles Garrett and company on the defensive line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there are major financial implications for the Rams if Donald\u2019s unretirement becomes official.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because Donald retired in 2023 prior to the end of his contract, LA would owe the future hall of famer $  30M that was dead money against the salary cap. This was made clear by a report from ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter and subsequent confirmation from Over The Cap:<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Yes. When he retired his last contract still had $  30m remaining. The NFL salary cap is a separate calculation and the Rams have already been charged for money they pushed into later years prior to Donald\u2019s retirement. Even with that in mind, LA has roughly $  18-19M in open cap space available for 2026. That ranks right in the middle of their league peers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, $  30M isn\u2019t nothing. Even for a team in a major market like the Rams. They also have a number of core players in need of new contracts, and forking over unexpected money to Donald could complicate that equation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the Rams have options. Deals can be reworked and renegotiated, although Over The Cap does suggest that Donald will likely want more than $  30M to return to football. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Donald\u2019s return may seem more likely than not, the financials are a notable speedbump and the first sign that a reunion may be more complicated than expected.
