The 2026 FIFA World Cup was more than the world’s biggest sporting event-it was an opportunity to showcase the United States on the global stage. On this episode of Get Real<\/a>, RealClearPolitics publisher and host David DesRosiers sits down with Andrew Giuliani, Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the FIFA World Cup, to discuss what it took to successfully host the tournament and why he believes it demonstrated American exceptionalism to billions of people around the world. Giuliani explains how federal, state, and local governments worked alongside law enforcement to provide unprecedented security while welcoming millions of international visitors. He also discusses the massive logistical effort required to stage the tournament across the country, the projected economic impact of the event, and why the World Cup was an opportunity to highlight America’s freedoms, values, and ability to unite behind a common goal. <\/p>\n

DAVID DESROSIERS, HOST: Here at home, the socialists are on the ballot and becoming the new establishment by disestablishing their own. My first guest is Andrew Giuliani, who just finished running one of the biggest logistical and security operations in American history, the World Cup. Andrew, goal. ANDREW GIULIANI: David, great to be with you. I gotta tell you, a big consumer of Real Clear Politics. It’s my first one. You could even tell Rupert and our buddies at the New York Post, I go to Real Clear Politics before I go to NYP every morning. So thank you very much for having me on. And you highlighted it there right at the top, right? I first spoke to the president about this role. President’s a busy guy. You better be ready to have your 10, 15 second elevator pitch. My pitch to him was you’re not gonna have a larger platform to be able to show off American exceptionalism over our first 250 years. And then the hope and promise of our next 250 years, not just to Americans, but to the rest of the world. And man, did the world fall in love with the United States of America. From our first amendment rights, all the way down to our ranch and our ice cubes. I’d say it was a full-on love affair. DESROSIERS: I think you’re absolutely right. Before we kind of jump into this, I have some questions I wanna ask you, but I wanna introduce you to our fellow panel members. Our method here is that we have red and blue teams, right? And we have Madeline on team blue, the lovely Madeline, my favorite non-angry millennial. And Kenin Spivak on team red. And I really have to kind of just jump into this. This is, what you did was very big and it was pulled off with, I think, without a glitch. I mean, so great credit to you. One of the things I just wanted to ask you about is that we opened ourselves to the world for the World Cup when we were at war. I mean, what type of security issues did you have to deal with? I mean, it seems like it was the biggest show on earth at the most dangerous time. GIULIANI: I can’t believe I have any hair left, to be perfectly honest. Somebody asked me, do you want the US to get the 2038 World Cup? And I was like, can I get a vacation first? Just like, I wanna see my wife and kids for my wife and child for a little bit here. But no, it really was an all of government effort, all of law enforcement effort. We worked with over 400 law enforcement organizations from state, local, federal. Over 50 federal agencies were involved in this all of effort event. There really has been nothing like it when you actually think about the fact that, think about it from the Superbowl’s perspective. About 165, about 170 million worldwide watch the Superbowl. Over 2 billion people watch the World Cup final just last Sunday. It is unlike anything we’ve ever seen from a security perspective. Generally, you’ll have one Superbowl. We set up each stadium, all 11 stadiums for all 78 matches in the US, just like a Superbowl from a counter UAS perspective to a ground entry perspective and egress perspective. But the difference with the Superbowl, David, is that you generally have all law enforcement come in for 10 days before they do the job and they get out of there waiting till the next month for a big event. Normally, it’s later that month in the joint address or the State of the Union. This one, you had sometimes six events in a day all across the country. Logistically, the United States have never pulled off anything like this from a security perspective. I can tell you, I get the lion’s share of the credit. I knew when I got this job, I get the lion’s share of the plate and people are giving me the lion’s share of the credit. But the credit goes really to the 45th and 47th president of the United States of America. He had the vision to land this World Cup back in 2018 and the execution with an incredible team of leaders from Secretary Rubio to Mark Wayne Mullen to Cash Patel. I spoke more to Mark Wayne and Cash than I did my wife over the last 60 days. Let’s hope for all of our relationships in August. That’s not the case. But it really, really was just an all of country effort here, all of continent effort to pull off the largest sporting event in world history. DESROSIERS: Yeah, I mean, one of the things I really do think you guys demonstrated, you in particular, aptitude on a national and global scale. Before I turn it over to the peanut gallery, can I ask you a question? What’s next? I know you have to take your wife on vacation, right? And spend some time with the kids, but what are you looking at if you can? GIULIANI: Oh man, you know what? I wanna take a little time, let this sink in. This has been really a 16 month sprint and it’s been such a great success. I had a conversation with President Trump actually on Saturday about this. We’re gonna be together again tomorrow, have a longer discussion about it. So wanna have a conversation with my boss and kind of figure it out there. But look, I’m always gonna be around. I’m always gonna be here fighting for our constitutional rights here in the United States. And the ability to be able to show the world, like I said, those freedoms over this last 40 day period has been really, really special. I think for me, it’s gonna be figuring out what fills the vacuum of these last six months. It really, really was a once in a lifetime opportunity. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
