Ed Markey accused his primary challenger, Rep. Seth Moulton, of voting for the military budget, which enabled President Trump to launch the current war in Iran. Moulton, an Iraq War veteran, replied that Sen. Ed Markey voted for the war in Iraq in 2002.   <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>SEN. ED MARKEY: Moreover, Congressman Moulton voted for Trump&#8217;s $  1 trillion defense budget, which he used to commence the war in Iran.  There&#8217;s now an energy crisis in Massachusetts that&#8217;s rippling through electricity bills, energy bills and grocery prices for every single family in Massachusetts.  That was avoidable. Congressman Moulton supported that defense bill.  MODERATOR: Thank you. Do you want to- You have 30 seconds.  REP. SETH MOULTON: Let&#8217;s be clear: I voted against this year&#8217;s defense bill that is actually funding the war in Iran.  I will never vote for wars in the Middle East that are unnecessary, because I have fought them.  Senator Markey was one of the people who voted to send me and thousands of other Americans to Iraq for a war that should not have been fought.  That&#8217;s why this is deeply personal to me. That&#8217;s why it matters.  I did vote for the housing bill the first time it came before the House. I support that legislation as well.  SEN. ED MARKEY: Again, Congressman Moulton did not vote on the housing bill on the House floor when passage was coming up.  By the way, the war in Iran started last June, when Donald Trump bombed Iran.  Six months later, Congressman Moulton voted for the $  1 trillion budget that he and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth were looking for.  That&#8217;s the money that&#8217;s being used in the war in Iran, Venezuela, Greenland and Cuba to come.  That is what&#8217;s causing the economic crisis in our country, as well as a national security crisis.  REP. SETH MOULTON: Senator Markey, I have seen Americans lose their lives because of your vote to send us to war in Iraq.  So do not question my commitment to peace in the Middle East.  SEN.
