Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump didn’t present it as an option, but informed him that he would run the State Department. Rubio said he believes Trump announced it on Truth Social before he formally accepted the job. “I’m just saying it generally wasn’t presented as like, ‘Hey, would you be interested in it?” It was more like, ‘Hey, you’re going to be.’ And I said, ‘OK, here we go,'” Rubio said on Katie Miller’s podcast. <\/p>\n
KATIE MILLER, HOST: When he approached you to be secretary of state, is that something you were seeking or did that just happen? SECRETARY RUBIO: Yeah, I don’t know if approach is the right term. He just basically called me and told me, you’re going to be the secretary of state. (Laughter.) It wasn’t presented as, like, an option \u2013 (a) you can stay in the Senate, or (b) you can – MILLER: And you said okay. Did you think about it? SECRETARY RUBIO: Not really. I mean, I think I’m \u2013 there had been some sense that that \u2013 something like that could happen. But it was the middle of the campaign and I wasn’t going to raise it, and he wasn’t going to talk about it. But I think it was maybe, like, 48 hours after \u2013 or maybe 72 hours \u2013 it wasn’t long after the election. He just basically called me and said, hey, this is what \u2013 I think he had even already Truth-posted it, and then he told me about it. So it was \u2013 (laughter) \u2013 and I was happy to do it, and I was honored to do it. I’m not saying that. I’m just saying it generally wasn’t presented as, like, Hey, would you be interested in\u2026 It was more like, Hey, you’re going to be, and I said okay, here we go. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
