“All-In” podcast host Jason Calacanis predicts that Tesla’s “Optimus” humanoid robot will be the single greatest product in the history of humanity, selling one billion humanoid robots over the next ten years. “Optimus is going to be the greatest-selling product in the history of humanity. It will sell and provide more value than the iPhone,” he predicted. “I will guarantee you, we will be sitting here in 10 years, and there will be one billion Optimus in the world,” Calacanis told Lon Harris on the “This Week in Startups” podcast. ” Not one million, not ten million, not 100 million.” Here is the full conversation:

JASON CALACANIS: I saw one of the latest Optimus demos. I can’t say what I saw, but I can tell you what I saw is better than anything I just saw at these World Games. Optimus is going to be the greatest product ever made by humanity. It is next level. It’s being built by Tesla. You know, they ripped out the Model X and the Model S factory lines, and they’re building these. Optimus is going to – if Optimus came to these games, I would predict Optimus wins 35 of 51 contests. LON HARRIS: I mean, what specifically? Like, why? What puts Optimus so far ahead of, like, Unitree or X-Humanoid or these companies that were showing off at Beijing? JASON CALACANIS: I think, you know, in addition to the hardware that I think is 1.5 generations beyond these, I think the brain is like five generations beyond this. This is not to diss anything happening in China. They’re building legit stuff, but I think Optimus is going to be the greatest-selling product in the history of humanity. It will sell and provide more value than the iPhone. I would say iPhone is the greatest product made in the history of humanity up until this point in terms of popularity, usage – you know what I’m saying? – like utility to the – you know, you could say the smartphone, but if you had to pick of the smartphones, you would say iPhone. Of the robots, Optimus. I will guarantee you, we will be sitting here in 10 years, and there will be one billion Optimus in the world. I didn’t say one million. I didn’t say 10 million. I didn’t say 100 million. I said one billion. I think there’ll be one billion Optimus robots in 2036. LON HARRIS: Wow. I will say this: I don’t always see eye to eye with Elon in terms of branding. Like the Tesla robotaxi Cybercabs you see driving around Austin with that weird cursive, like, punk-rock font. I don’t like – in terms of branding, not for me. But Optimus as the name for your robot? Ten out of 10. The best possible name. What could make you feel better about owning a robot than having it be named after pop culture’s number-one kindest and most respected robot?
